・リードー新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大に伴い活動が限定されていた日米の学生どうしの交流プログラムが３年ぶりに再開し、学生たちは、インド太平洋地域の安全保障環境が悪化する中、両国が果たすべき役割などについて、議論の成果を発表しました。
「日米学生会議」は、戦前の１９３４年に発足した交流プログラムで、宮澤元総理大臣やキッシンジャー元国務長官なを最後にど、数々の著名人を輩出してきましたが、ウイルスの感染拡大に伴い、２０１９年を最後に活動が限定されていました。
３年ぶりに対面式での開催となったことしは、今月初旬、日本から３５人の学生がアメリカを訪れました。
そしてニューヨークなどで、アメリカ側の学生と３週間にわたって浸食をともにしながら議論を重ね、２４日、東部メリーランド州アナポリスで成果を発表しました。
発表は、国際統治や教育、テクノロジーなど７つのテーマ別に行われ、中国が台湾周辺で挑発的な行動を繰り返す中、日米が協力して抑止力を高めることが重要だといった意見がでたほか、沖縄に駐留するアメリカ軍と地元の人たちとのコミュニケーションを強化すべきだと意見もでました。

The Japan-America Student Conference, or JASC, was launched in 1934 as Japan's first international
student exchange program. Former Japanese Prime Minister Miyazawa Kiichi and former US Secretary
of State Henry Kissinger were members.
The JASC had to limit its activities because of the coronavirus pandemic. The last time students from both countries met person was in 2019.
This year the organizers of the program decided to resume face-to-face exchanges -- 35 Japanese students went to the United States in early August.
The students from the two countries have held discussions while living together for three weeks in New York and other places.
